Battle of The Mind
The first thing we need to recognize in the weight loss/getting healthy journey is that losing weight/getting healthy is not the battle.

The battle is with our minds.  Our minds have been so corrupted by the world, by what we see, by what we hear, that trying to retrain is the battle.  Billy Blanks says that our 2 biggest enemies are our Eyes and Ears.

What we have to do is start feeding ourselves the spiritual food of God instead of the junk food of the world in order to get that mind changed.  When my mind faces a huge battle, my biggest weapon is to use the Word of God, to fight it with scripture, fight it with the truth.

Quoting scripture out loud can do such incredible things.  "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me", "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" "I will walk by faith, not by sight"  I could go on and on!  I also quote things like, "Where I am today is where my mind put me, where I will be tomorrow is where my mind put me."  If you are unhappy where you are today, it is because it is where your mind put you.  You have to change that mind, change that will, change that attitude and put yourself where you want to be, where you should be tomorrow.

I can't stress enough how important this is.  We must change the mind, the inside in order to change the outside.  If we work only on the outside, then you will fail over and over again.  Retraining the mind is similar to learning to walk as a toddler or being potty trained.  It has to be consistent, you have to have help (God can hold your hand & fellowship for accountability), and it takes time and determination.  I never see a baby give up trying to learn to walk.  Every time they fall, they get right back up and try again.  If they get hurt on the way, their Daddy comes and kisses the boo boos and helps them along, just like our Heavenly Father.  You can do this, but you have to commit to it and be determined.  Everything you do must be done with determination and a purpose.  What is your purpose in any decision you make?

Those of you who make the drive from Bangs to Brownwood or vice versa each day may notice a lady that walks up and down the highway, just about every single day, carrying her trash bag, picking up cans to cash in for herself and trash to just be nice and help keep the highway clean.  She is an older woman and very tan from walking the highway in the very hot sun each day.  Sometimes she will wear an orange reflector vest for safety.     This woman makes me smile every time I see her and inspires me.  Even though it may seem odd and silly to some, to me, I see a woman who has given herself a purpose in this life and is determined to follow through everyday, rain or shine.  She has a motivation that wakes her each morning and with joy and determination and helps her endure the long hours in the sun so she can achieve her goal each day and I am sure she goes to bed feeling satisfied in what she has done.

I think we can all learn from this amazing woman.  Although your personal goal in life may not be walking a highway and picking up trash, it should be a goal that gives you a purpose, that makes you jump out of bed each morning with joy and determination, that motivates you to endure anything that you must face to get to your goal so that when you go to bed each day, when you look in the mirror at yourself each day, you can smile and be proud and satisfied that you have done your best to get closer to that goal.
