Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the Lord; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord"
Why is it so hard for us to wait? Because, as a part of fallen humanity, we are so programmed to take matters into our own hands. One of the most important exhortations in the Bible is the call to "Wait on the Lord". We don't like to wait because we feel like if we do, the bridge is going to collapse. But I have learned that is a different kind of weight! We forget to have faith and wait and let God do the heavy lifting of that weight. We live in a society of microwave miracles and expect things to happen fast and now! Just like in the weight loss industry, we all just want a pill to take and don't want to spend the months of hard work that it really takes to get into shape. I could really go on and on about this!
So what have I learned? I learned there are 4 important reasons to wait on the Lord.
1. To Show God We Love Him.
Waiting on God is coming into His presence to be with Him and not just for what He can do or what we want Him to do for us. It is just like we cannot wait to be with Him. If you stop waiting on Him, you stop loving Him with your first love.
2. To Show God We Need Him.
The basis of all creation and of all Christianity is that we are the creation and He is the Creator. We need Him! Although we need Him, not all of us acknowledges this. How can God respond if we don't acknowledge our needs? He only responds to our needs, that is how He created us. We have a free will and we don't acknowledge all the time that we need Him.
John 15:15 "I am the vine, you are the branches. Abide in Me and I will abide in you; you shall bear much fruit. Without Me you can do nothing."
We must have full confidence of what He can do through us, but at the same time, we must know we cannot do it without Him.
3. To Bring Us To God's Plan
Waiting on God is to hear Him, to receive His plans and purposes for our lives. God has a perfect plan for our lives, but because we don't wait on Him, listen for His voice, His wisdom, His direction, we go off in our own direction and then blame God for the mess we are in. It is like when you are a child and your parents are constantly trying to tell you what to do to prevent you from having pain or trouble. Sometimes we listen and follow, sometimes we don't and face the consequences. Sometimes the wait can be so long!
4. Renewal of the Mind!
Isaiah 40:31 "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
A week or so ago, I was very weary, stressed, and faint, not knowing what direction to go in a business decision. But when I made the choice to wait on the Lord and hear his Voice to do so, I have renewed my strength and am not weary and am walking in faith! Already today, God's plan is becoming more and more clear and it is practically falling in my lap! God is so good! Why do we have to make it so hard on ourselves! LOL!
One last thought. Remember that faith without works is dead. When God says wait, He doesn't mean sit on your tail end and do nothing. You still need to work hard and do what you know you are to do each day. But wait on Him for guidance and direction and to hear His perfect plan for your life.
Love you all so very much and pray for a very blessed and empowering week! Expect good things!
