Five Keys to Getting Fit By Faith©
1.Change from the inside out.
Fixing the outside is a yo yo effect. Fix the inside and the outside fixes itself. If getting in shape was all about the physical, we would all be in shape. It is spiritual.
2.Understand the Power of your Words.
How many times have you said you will “try” to get a workout in or “maybe” you will cook a healthy meal. To try is to be uncommitted. When you say your wedding vows do you say you will “try” to love and honor your husband? When you interview for a job do you say “maybe” you will get to work on time? So why should your health be any less important. You must remove those words from your vocabulary and especially the world “can’t”.
Proverbs 18:20-21 says that “A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth. From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.
The desires of your life will be satisfied by your lips. What comes out of your mouth is what you will become. God says that very clearly! How many of you look in the mirror and say, “I look so fat”. If you speak that over yourself, that is what you will be. If you speak negativity into your life, then your life will become negative. Your words can literally save your life. When something negative does come out of your mouth, stop and replace it with God’s Word, the truth.
3.Make Changes you can live with the rest of your life.
Many people go on diets to lose weight. Some go on extreme diets just to get a jump start. But anytime you go on a diet, you must come off it and once you do, your body will go back to where it was and you will have learned nothing. The key to having a healthy lifestyle is to make a change you can live with always. Can you take diet pills the rest of your life? Cut carbs/sugar? Of course not, you will harm yourself doing that for a long period. Also, you cannot use a pill to control your will. In order to stay healthy for a lifetime, you must strengthen your will with your Spirit not a pill.
4.Have Joy in the Journey.
If you cannot look in the mirror, right now, no matter what your body looks like and be able to say, “I love you”, then you won’t be able to do it in your new in shape body either. This is why it is important to change from the inside out. You have to have joy in all circumstances, from beginning to the end, otherwise when you get to the end, you will still be unhappy and still find something wrong with yourself.
5.Failure is not falling "off the wagon".
So many people give up altogether if they have one fall. You have to understand and accept they you are human and you will make mistakes and fall. Living in an all or nothing attitude will set you up for failure. People learn much more from mistakes than from doing it right! Finding what works for you, doing detective work, requires things to go wrong from time to time. Failure is not falling, it is how you choose to handle the fall that determines failure. What did you learn from that is what you want to ask yourself instead of spiraling into self-pity. And really living the fat loss lifestyle you are never on or off a wagon, you are always on, knowing there are tough days :)
